Millertown Volunteer Fire Department

The Millertown Volunteer Fire Department provides fire protection services for the Community of Millertown.   The department was formed in May 1977, headed by Volunteer Fire Chief Eldwood Mayne and consisting of 50 members. Currently the fire department roster consists of 19 active firefighters and 8 honorary members. The department is headed by volunteer Fire Chief Baxter (Junior) Elliott, who has served 30 years with the department, 12 years as Fire Chief.

The Millertown Volunteer Fire Department has two vehicle units. It has a 1977 GMC C50 Pumper truck which carries 500 gallons of water with a 37HP 500GPM pump mounted at the rear, a number of lengths of 1” and 2” inch hose. The department also has a 1979 Chev Auxiliary Truck with 2 mark III forestry pumps, 6 sets of breathing apparatus with a number of spare cylinders, first aide & burn kits and various other equipment.

Volunteer membership is available to citizens 18 years of age and older who are willing to be actively involved by donating some of their time and talents to help the community. Applications are available at the Town Office or Download and drop it off at the Town Office.  All Active members are expected to attend all meetings and training sessions whenever possible, help clean apparatus after a fire or a training session, and help with any fundraisers.  For more information, or if you are interested in joining the Millertown Volunteer Fire Department please feel free to contact the Fire Chief Baxter (Junior) Elliott at: 852-6276

The backbone of support to the Millertown Volunteer Fire Department’s fundraising efforts are the ladies of the community who assist in fundraising by providing meals for various events.  As with the Volunteer Fire Department, Millertown Firettes are always looking for new members.
The department is involved in various fundraising activities throughout the year, with the Millertown Days Events being the main event of the year.   Millertown days are held on the last weekend of July with various activities and an adult dance being the highlight of the weekend.

The Millertown Volunteer Fire Department was instrumental in forming the Firemen’s Memorial Dart Tournament in 2000.  This tournament has been held each year with a different Fire Department from central Newfoundland hosting and has become a huge fundraising success.  The tournament allows for fellow fire fighters to come together and help raise much needed money to support their volunteer fire departments.
