MessageHave a few pictures of Millertown taken before 1947. Would anyone in Millertown be be interested in them - possibly the museum??? (Then possibly I could join them there - one more antique wouldn"t take up much space!!} I mean that as a joke.lol Let me know. Was down in Nfld this post summer and had a fantastic time (as usual) but didn't get to the interior of the country.. Real sorry I missed that. Maybe next time, interested in them..what about the Museum??

MessageWhere is everyone? Please don't let this beautiful site die. I lived (and I mean LIVED) my teen years in this town. We had our own small farm and grew all our vegetables. We had hens, ducks, geese, pigs and cows. One year we decided to expand the herd so we purchased a bull. Nothing happened. I think the beast was gay. Result? Roast beef! My father worked in the supply store and my Mother ran the staff house and also helped deliver most of the new borns in the town. The young lady (her name escapes me at the moment) who said the A.N.D office building was no longer there really broke my heart. So help me! I worked for years trying to have that edifice made a World Heritage Site! And now it's gone! Kaput! Never to be admired again! But who can explain to me what happened to that twin of Mt Everest next door? Several times as a kid I actually scaled the slopes of that massive mountain all the way up to the summit high above the clouds. And now all that is left is a few medium size boulders. I had hoped to have that site proclaimed as the Eighth Wonder of the World. And now please forgive me if I ask what may appear to be a crazy question. Has anyone noticed how the road has shrunk? It used to be so-o-o-o far from the town hall to the Royal Store, and now? A hop, skip and jump! The town may have changed but the beautiful memories remain, and if I ever die (who knows) I will take them to my grave with a smile on my face. Oh yes, you can keep your i-phones, i-pads and thousand other gadgets, but leave me to savor my special memories.... And speaking of memories,- what happened to the caboose? Many a night I braved the wind and cold on the small platform at the end, discussing the world economic situation and Einstein's theory of Relativity. It stands out in my mind. And finally (yes,-finally) a special word to my many friends I left behind on that sad, sad day in 1945 when I said "good-bye" to the most beautiful spot on the planet. PLEASE, PLEASE get busy and sign in. I'm sure there many of us who would like to hear from you. Keep this site alive I"m on my knees! Please?

MessageMy brother, Warren Jack, introduced me to this site and I have greatly enjoyed everything about it especially the photos, history and comments. I left Millertown (and NL) in 1967. In 2005 I moved back to NL and I visit my Mom , May Elliott, who still lives in Millertown at every opportunity I get. A beautiful, small town where I hold dear my memories of growing up there. It will always be 'home' for me. Thanks for this site. Great job!

MessageMy mother, Ruth Jones Shideler, was born and raised in Millertown to George and Sarah Jones, both of whom are buried in Millertown, their beloved home. Although my mother enjoyed an adventurous life that took her to many places, her heart always remained in Millertown. Mom passed away on December 17, 2010 at the age of 90. Thank you for putting together such a lovely website!

MessageI lived and went to school in Millertown in the 30's and 40's and when I left my heart stayed behind. I loved the isolation, the way of life, the lack of highways and cars and the fact that we had to make our own entertainment. We had no hydro but the coal oil lamp served the dual purpose of providing light and acting as a signal to our friends before turning in for the night. After 65 years in Ontario I can no longer leap tall buildings at a single bound but who knows what would have happened if I has remained in that Shangrila? Oh yes,how I love thee! And after all these years, how I miss thee! When I return in the next life I will know better.

MessageGreat site, couple of suggestions, without any intention of insulting you. 1. are you able to add where we could upload addional pictures of an e-mail address where we can sent them. 2. History files, where one can add what years they spent n Millertown. ex: Warren Jack Elliott April 17 1945 to September 1963 or Claude Elliott married to May with 6 children from april 1945 showing each Child and when they left from Millerrtown, some may be still there.

MessageMillertown is my adopted home, since I have been exploring the "Central" area off and on since 1987, mainly at Duck Pond. The people, scenery and history are great. While the Lewis Miller pine operation and the A.N.D. Co. pulpwood operation are well known, how many people know about the fifty reindeer that, at the turn of the 20th century, were shepherded from St. Anthony to Buchan's Junction over the Long Range Mountains in the dead of winter. This was achieved by a family of five Laplanders (hence the Buchan's Junction water supply name of Lapland Pond), Matty Mitchell (discoverer of the Buchans mine) and Mr. Cole (mentioned in the Badger Drive song) for the A.N.D. company, who were interested in using the reindeer as draught animals. There used to be a copy of Cole's journal in the Millertown wildlife office. Cheers.

MessageHi. My sons Lewis and Mark Drysdale are two of the great great grandsons of Lewis Miller. thats through Lewis Miller's daughter Annie McOwan Miller who married Swanson Drysdale...and had 6 children including one Stuart Drysdale who married Sigrid Waldmann and had one son Neil- who married me, Miriam Little, and we had 2 sons the afore mentioned Lewis and Mark. Neil sadly died in 2001 aged 44. Mark, 26, is presently travelling on your side of the pond-in Alaska right now ski mountaineering- I just wondered if I could give him any contacts of second or third cousins- to tempt him to visit Nova Scotia!! I believe its a lovely part of the world! Hence the query- is there anybody there? I'd be really grateful for a reply! kind regards Miriam

MessageI worked at Duckpond with AUR Resources, now Teck Cominco, from May 2005 to Feb 2006. The office was in Millertown then. Always nice to run across the street to Sis's to get a lunch, chat, and more than likely torment Mae. Good grub there too then. Still got the pounds on even! MessageHello, I first came to Millertown in April 2004 to work at Duckpond. I have since changed careers but remain a permanent resident of this scenic town. The natural beauty of the awe inspiring Gaff Topsails to Exploits River has a calming effect on soul and spirit. The endless miles of roads and trails is an ATV'ers/snowmobilers paradise. Red Indian lake is the second largest lake on the island, boasting approximate 65 km distance from Mary March River to Lloyds River. I hope to see many postings and stories here from residents, visitors, and Millertown expatriates.
