Grand Falls-Windsor-Buchans MHA Welcomes Heritage Funding
August 6, 2008 – Susan Sullivan, MHA for the District of Grand Falls-Windsor-Buchans, today welcomed the recent announcement by the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, that the District of Grand Falls-Windsor-Buchans has received $10,161 in funding through the Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP).
The Red Indian Lake Heritage Society has received funds for operational and project support through the province’s Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP). The operational grant of $8,750 will be used to produce outdoor interpretive panels on the history of the Beothuk that will promote this significant site. An additional $1,411 has been provided in operational support for the heritage group.
"The Red Indian Lake Heritage Society is to be commended for its tremendous efforts in keeping alive the history and heritage of the region”, said MHA, Susan Sullivan. “The preservation in word of such an important part of our cultural legacy is an asset that will serve the area well into the future and I congratulate the committee on their tenacity in seeing this project through. I also would like to thank Minister Jackman and his department for their interest and support of this very worthwhile project."
A total of 28 heritage-related projects totalling $138,145 have been approved under the 2008 Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP). The program is providing $1.15 million for operational and project support in 2008 to the heritage sector, and about $1.2 million to the professional arts sector, for a total of about $2.3 million.
